Merrie Bobo was born in South Carolina. She moved to Louisville in 1959 with her husband.  She is a retired Jefferson County Public Schools teacher, having taught English, ESL and social studies.  She has worked as a project archivist at the University of Louisville doing Jewish and African-American oral projects as well as a history of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and of The Courier-Journal and The Louisville Times.
