You are invited to visit with Women Who Write at
our monthly meetings. You may visit for two meetings before deciding if you wish
to become a member. Guests are welcome to observe during the meeting; critiquing
is by members only. Membership receives priority consideration in readings/critiquing of material.
Our membership dues are $25.00, paid annually on July
1st.
Partial dues of $12.50
will be collected from those who join after December 1st. Dues entitle members
to participate in the critical response process, share their work with the group, participate in retreats and community events
involving Women Who Write, provide readings, and have their critiqued works published in the annual
Women Who Write anthology “Calliope." Each member whose work is
published will receive one free copy.
Members
are expected to take an active role in leading meetings, planning retreats and readings, writing grants and other agenda items. If you plan to share your work, please bring 12-14 copies. Works of up to five pages, double-spaced, will be read and discussed during the meetings.
During
the discussion of member’s works, “Toward a Process for Critical Response” will be
used. This process consists of six steps:
-
Affirmation
-
Artist
as Questioner
-
Responders
ask the Questions
-

Time
-

-
Working
on the Work
This
is a peer response process that allows the writer and participants to give and receive feedback that is helpful and sensitive
to the creative process. This openness creates an environment where positive
critical thinking can take place.
